LAWRENCE (KS) - The Lawrence City Commission has approved the 2019 funding recommendations from the Transient Guest Tax Program Advisory Board on Tuesday at City Hall.
As part of the 2019 budget cycle, the Lawrence City Commission approved a $150,000 grant program to encourage, promote and strengthen events and programs that benefit the Lawrence community and/or enhance the visitor experience in Lawrence. This program is overseen by the Transient Guest Tax Program Advisory Board.
Lead Horse LLC's "2nd Annual Young Professionals Powwow+ Trade Show and Convention" scored 269 total points and finished sixth overall out of 35 applicants totaling over $350,000 in funding requests.
The applicants were scored based on two main criteria:
- Demonstrate a measurable economic benefit including enhancing the cultural economy or travel/tourism economy, create additional transient guest tax and sales tax &
- Enhance Lawrence’s character and reputation for tourist activities and demonstrate pull of regional visitors.
The funding will be used for our signature Iron 5 Singer's Challenge open to all 18-35 year old Native American powwow singers.
The 2nd Annual Young Professionals Powwow+ Trade Show and Convention is on Wednesday July 17, 2019 at Abe and Jake's Landing in Downtown Lawrence, Kansas.
